FIGHTING FOOD POVERTY WITH THE MAZI PROJECT

As food insecurity amongst disadvantaged youth increased during cost-of-living crisis, we helped The MAZI Project launch a winter campaign like no other…

Winter was coming. And for the 50% of British 16–25-year-olds that had gone to bed hungry in the last twelve months, forcing them to miss work or education, it was going to be a winter of discontent.

Thankfully, for hundreds of care leavers, youth recovering from homelessness and young asylum seekers living in supported accommodation in Bristol, Melanie Vaxevanakis’s The MAZI Project – a Bristol-based CIC set up during lockdown – was there to help feed them good, nutritious food via their weekly meal kits, as well as connecting them to Bristol’s vibrant food scene.

The MAZI Project’s energy and dynamism really struck a chord with us at Wonderland, so we were delighted to be able to create and launch their winter MAZIMAS campaign in Bristol and nationally, including the announcement of Maisie Williams as their new ambassador. We’ll continue to work with Mel and Maisie to raise awareness of this important and urgent issue throughout 2023.
